You may have seen the phrase holistic life and money coaching and wondered what it actually means — and whether it’s something that could help you. In simple terms, it’s a supportive, practical way of looking at your whole life, including your relationship with money, so that the changes you make are realistic and last.
What does “holistic” mean in coaching?
“Holistic” simply means looking at the whole picture rather than one part in isolation. Instead of treating money as a spreadsheet problem, or confidence as a separate issue from your relationships and goals, a holistic coach explores how these things connect: your mindset, confidence, relationships, goals and financial wellbeing. When one area shifts, the others often follow.
So what is coaching, exactly?
Professional coaching bodies such as the International Coaching Federation describe coaching as a partnership in which the coach supports you to clarify your goals, create action plans, move past obstacles and achieve what you choose. The emphasis is on your own insight and decisions — a coach asks good questions and helps you take action; they don’t tell you how to live.
Why bring money into it?
Money touches almost every part of life: the choices we make, the stress we carry and the opportunities we feel able to take. Yet many of us were never taught how to think about it. Our beliefs about money — “it’s hard to come by”, “I’m just not good with it” — are often formed early and run quietly in the background. In money coaching, the focus is on mindset, habits, confidence and goals. If you’re curious how beliefs shape financial wellbeing, our article on money mindset is a good place to start.
What happens in a session?
- Check in: how you’re feeling and what’s on your mind.
- Explore: what’s going on, what’s getting in the way and what you want instead.
- Plan: small, practical steps that fit your week.
- Support: gentle accountability and encouragement until the next session.
Who is holistic life and money coaching for?
It can suit you if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure what comes next; if you want more confidence, clearer direction or a calmer relationship with money; or if you simply want a supportive space to think things through. You don’t need to have everything figured out — you just need to be willing to begin.
What coaching is not
- It isn’t therapy. Coaching looks forward; it isn’t a substitute for medical or psychological care. If you’re struggling with your mental health, please speak to your GP or a qualified professional.
- It isn’t regulated financial advice. Money coaching doesn’t recommend investments or financial products. For that, speak to a regulated financial adviser.
- It isn’t a regulated profession in the UK. It’s sensible to ask any coach about their training, experience and how they work before you start.
How to choose a coach
Look for someone whose approach feels warm and clear, who explains what to expect, and who offers a no-pressure first conversation. Trust your instincts: you should feel listened to, not judged.
